Context:

Context:
The conversation is between Becca and Peg. The conversation is at Becca’s garden in the morning and they are close friend. Becca was watering plants in the garden of her home. The aim Peg comes to Becca’s home to give congratulate welcome home and invite her to dinner with Howie. (Back sound music)
1. Peg : Becca....
2. Becca : oh…huh ::: (0,3). Hey Peg.
3. Peg : wow::: it looks so nice back here.
4. Becca : well, I’m just, you know, trying to get things back into shape.
5. Peg : oh::: listens, we don’t know if you and Howie are free tonight having a few people over for dinner.
6. Becca : oh::: that’s very sweet//of you
7. Peg : //I know it’s really short//notice.
8. Becca : //actually, we have PLANS.
9. Peg : Oh… Oh, well.
10. Becca : But, uh, another TIME though. I haven’t talked to Pete in Ages.
11. Peg : Ough… well you haven’t missed much. He’s still the same S.O.B. he always was. ((laughing))
Oh God… I’m so sorry.
12. Becca : ::: It’s okay (0,3)
13. Peg : I am so//sorry.
14. Becca : //No, it’s fine. ((laughing))
15. Peg : These stupid feet.
16. Becca : Well::: have a great dinner, Peg.
17. Peg : We’ll do it next time.

Analysis of Conversation

a. Characterize the participants being involved in the conversation
Becca is the type of person who is consistent and faithful to her husband, because when Peg took her out to dinner together. Becca is still in its inception because Becca had plans tonight with Howie and Becca have not asked for permission to Howie to accept invitations to dinner. It same in the utterance number 10. “Actually, we have PLANS”. Meanwhile, Peg is the type of person who is friendly and nice, because when Becca came, Peg came to greet the arrival of Becca came back to her house and Peg also good when he wanted to take Becca and Howie for dinner. It same in the utterance number 5. “Oh..listens, we don’t know if you and Howie are free tonight having a few people over for dinner”.
From the conversation above Becca confused who call him is prove by her short hesitation “oh…” (As in 2) and lengthening vocal also it is prove by her relief and Becca is busy planting flowers, so that Becca did not notice the call Peg “huh::: (0,3) Hey Peg” (as in 2). This is proved by her lengthening “wow::: (as in 3) which implies that Peg astonished to see so beautiful Becca’s garden decorated with beautiful flowers and Peg gives a compliment to Becca. Peg proves by her here Lengthening “oh:::listen (as in 5) which implies that Peg wants to Becca pay attention and Peg gives information for invitation dinner to Becca with Howie. Then Becca prove by her appreciate Peg invited her for dinner to night and Becca gives compliments to Peg who was invited to dinner by using Lengthening “oh::: that’s very sweet of you (as in 6). But, Peg objected to Becca's compliments so that she use Overlap “oh::: that’s very sweet//of you” (as in 6) that Becca commend Peg because Peg invites Becca and Howie to dinner. But at the sametime Becca said, "of you" Peg said "I know it's really short//notice" (as in 7) that Peg did not want to be praised because it was just a plain dinner invitation only.
Becca refuse an invitation Peg by stressing PLANS (as in 8), which implies that Becca would like to emphasize that Becca had his own plans, so it automatically Peg could understand. Peg realized that Becca is busy with his own events with Howie, so short hesitation “oh…oh.. well (as in 9) implies that is not a problem for Peg if Becca and her husband could not attend the dinner. Becca doesn't wants disappoint her friends then she invites dinner by stressing TIME (as in 10) implies that, Becca hope the next time could have dinner with Peg. This is prove by her non verbal action ((laughing)) that actually Peg wants to Becca sarcastic about her past. Peg proves by her innocent and apologizes to Becca with short hesitation “Oh God… I’m so sorry (as in 11), which implies that Peg accidentally stepping the plants that have been planted in the Becca’s garden. This is proved by Becca’s lengthening vocal “:::It’s okay (0,3) (as in 12) that actually Becca wants to say something but it’s uneasy for her to direct verbally to her close friend and Becca was clearing up plants that have been trampled. This is proved by Peg overlap “I am so//sorry” (as in 13) at the same time Peg said “sorry”, Becca said “//No, it’s fine” (as in 14) that Peg should not have to apologize again. Becca wants to change is a serious situation into a regular situation proved by her non verbal action with ((laughing)). Becca gives a hope to Peg about their dinner then proved by her lengthening Well::: have a great dinner, Peg (as in 16). This is proved by her lengthening “yeah::: Absolutely (as in 18) which implies that Becca with pleasure and confidence on her promises an invitation to dinner together. Peg farewell to go home and think about what else would deliver to Becca and proved by Lengthening vocal “::: Say hi to Howie for me. (0,5)” (as in 19) that implies Peg thought for a minute about what she wants delivered to Becca.

b. Explain 5 aspects marked!
(//) it’s called as overlap, the using overlap because Becca and Peg said “I am so//sorry, //No, its fine” as in 13 and 14. The function overlap to the speaker wants to talk at the same time in the conversation. The function of lenghtening ( :: / ::: ) is to define the long of sound, it’s mean that the sound of the speaker sometimes have a extended in conversation. For example, the using lenghtening “wow::: it looks so nice back here” as in 3. (0,3) it’s call as pause. From the aspects above we know that Becca needs time to think about the answer apology of Peg. For instance, the using pause “It’s okay (0,3)” as in 12. Using of uppercase ( Capital Word ) in this conversation indicate the more pressure in the word. In other word, it’s signify that the speaker wants to formulate the idiom which represent the speaker feel to other speaker. For example, PLANS as in 8. Non verbal action ((laugh)), It’s mean that the other idiom or non verbal expression both of the speaker sound or arround of the conversation usually come into sight in the conversation. For example, ((laugh)) as in 11.

Cohesion 

is connection existing between elements in the text.

there are 5 kinds of Cohesion
1. Substitution is the replacement of a word (group) or sentence segment by a ‘dummy’ word
There are three types of substitution:
a. substitution of a noun  
b. substitution of a verb
c. substitution of a clause
2. Ellipsis is the omission of a word or part of a sentence. It is related to substitution. The difference lies in that ellipsis is described as ‘substitution by zero’
3. Reference is the act of referring to a preceding or following element. Reference deals with a semantic relationship. There are two types of reference: anaphoric and cataphoric
4. Conjunction is a relationship which indicates how the subsequent sentence or clause should be linked to the preceding or the following (parts of the) sentence.
The relationship can be hypotactic (combining a main clause with a sub-clause or phrase) or paratactic (combining two main clauses).
5. Lexical cohesion deals with connections based on the words used but not deal with grammatical and semantic connections.
There are two types of lexical cohesion: reiteration and collocation.
There five types of reiteration:
(1) repetition,
(2) synonymy,
(3) hyponymy,
(4) metonymy,
(5) antonymy.

Dozens of supporters of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) almost came to blows with a group of students in Pontianak, West Kalimantan over a banner rejecting the establishment of the FPI in the province.
The FPI supporters protested against the banner and asked the students to take it down.
The police, who were already on the scene, were able to prevent violence breaking out. The police asked representatives from both sides to meet and discuss the issue.
West Kalimantan Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Mukson Munandar said on Thursday night that they were expecting backup from the National Police headquarters and the Central Java Police headquarters to prepare for any eventuality.
“We are waiting for mobile brigade personnel to help us contain the situation here,” Mukson said as quoted by tempo.co.
The backup was expected to arrive in the town on Friday.
The dispute between the students and FPI sympathizers followed an incident last month when four FPI leaders were barred from entering Palangkaraya, the capital of Central Kalimantan, by thousands of locals.
The locals argued that they did not want the FPI to open a branch in their town.(dic)
